About

With her competition experience and technique training, Julie specializes in taking people from just walking in the front door of the dance studio and can have them dancing with ease in no time, all while having fun doing it!

She specializes in Smooth, Rhythm, Standard, and technique, but she enjoys teaching all styles of dance and everyone from brand new beginning dancers to more experienced dancers wanting to explore showcases and competitions.

Since a very early age, Julie has been dancing, performing, and competing both in classical dance such as ballet, tap and jazz, as well as other areas, including various sports and horseback riding. For 13 years, she trained and performed traditional dance with Betty Johnson and Arizona Sunrays, but was involved in so many activities she couldn’t do them all. She then followed her passion of riding and showing Arabian horses at the national level, accumulating numerous local and regional awards, in addition to 7 national Top Ten awards. Like many young individuals, she had to put her competitive pursuits aside and began attending college at Santa Clara University in Santa Clara, CA, where she received 2 Bachelor’s degrees in just 4 years. It wasn’t until a year after she graduated college that she discovered her true passion in ballroom dancing. She quickly began training and competing intensely at various ballroom competitions both nationally and internationally.

In just over four years, Julie has earned such recognition as Top Newcomer, Top Silver competitor (multiple times) and numerous Top Competitor awards. She also has had the privilege to qualify compete in the World Dance Council World Pro-Am Competition 2011 in Bermuda, where she achieved 3rd in the world in Rhythm dancing and 1st in the world in Smooth dancing, as well as the South American Open Pro-Am Competition in Argentina, where she achieved 3rd in South America for Smooth dancing and 1st in South America for International Standard dancing (think Quickstep). Julie now is a professional competitor in the American Smooth dances. She has competed at such prestigious events as the Galaxy Dance Festival in Phoenix, AZ and the Ohio Star Ball, where she and her partner were Quarter- Finalists in Professional American Smooth Rising Star after just 3 months of competing together.
